Jeff Dawson

Producer | Engineer | Mixer | Musician | Writer

Vancouver based producer/engineer/mixer Jeff Dawson developed and produced the breakthrough debut album "Bad Day" by songwriter Daniel Powter (Warner).

After working on Daniel's songs and helping develop the project's sound over 3 years, Warner Bros Chairman/CEO Tom Whalley took one listen and knew he had something extraordinary. Dan's single "Bad Day" was #1 for 5 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 of 2006 and has become an incredible world wide hit with almost 2.2 million downloads and nearly 3 million albums sold.

Don't let the A/C sounds of Daniel Powter fool you. Jeff's ear and musical taste run the full gamut.

Recent projects include Load/EMI act The Dudes, Vancouver’s Art of Dying, 5AM’s latest “Raise The Sun” and R&B Diva Kelly Rowland single “Unity”. Jeff produced and recorded 2 year chart toppers, State of Shock and their smash album “Life, Love and Lies.” This CD is Certified Platinum in Canada and set to soon take the US by storm. .

Their success is thanks in part to Jeff's ability to work with artists' songs in the writing stages, and his focus on catchy “commercial” choruses, great melodies and strong hooks. Dawson's mantra?  "It's all about the song." Could be an edgy EMO band, a pop act, a heavy rock band, or a singer/songwriter – the same constant applies to every act Dawson works with  – focusing on song structure and arrangement, and making the players and vocalist's performance the best they can be.  Radio ready. Demo isn't his favourite word… "Do it once and do it right" says the driven and focused producer. Jeff prefers to start the process by listening to an artist’s upcoming material and using his keen ear and musical "spidey-sense" to pick the gems and focus on their potential in the writing stages before hitting the studio. Each project has it's distinct sound – Jeff's diversified musical background is reflected in his project choices and these projects successes.

Other projects that Jeff has wrapped up include the critically acclaimed and recent EMI released Marcy Playground CD, “Leaving Wonderland In A Fit Of Rage”.

Other recent works include Vancouver buzz singer songwriter Stef Lang, Danny Echo, Ottawa darlings Goodluck Assembly, Vancouver  pop-metal act Incura, the upcoming

Tal Bachman release and platinum selling singer/songwriter Holly McNarland (Curve/Universal).

His musicality and innate ability to hear a potential hit is making him a favorite of artists and record labels alike.
